Casa dos Ventos, one of Brazil’s largest renewable energy developers and a leading force in wind generation, is now making a major move into solar power. The company—responsible for developing one in every four wind farms in Brazil and with more than 35 GW of renewable capacity in its portfolio—has partnered with U.S.-based Nextracker to add over 1.5 GW of solar capacity across four new projects.
The solar buildout will feature Nextracker’s NX Horizon-XTR all-terrain solar tracker and NX Horizon systems, tailored for large-scale installations. The projects include Babilônia Sul (117 MW), Babilônia Centro (226 MW), Seriemas (540 MW), and Rio Brilhante (680 MW), located in the municipalities of Morro do Chapéu and Várzea Nova in Bahia, and in Mato Grosso do Sul.
A Hybrid Future
This agreement marks Casa dos Ventos’ first utility-scale solar deployment, an important milestone in its strategy to develop hybrid power plants combining wind and solar. By integrating both resources at shared interconnection points, these plants maximize land use, reduce costs, and provide more consistent, round-the-clock renewable energy.

Alejo Lopez, vice president of Nextracker Latin America, highlighted the synergy:
“Pairing wind and solar brings reliable, round-the-clock energy with fewer grid connections. Brazil is one of our most dynamic markets, with abundant sunshine, rising demand for energy, and forward-looking policies that foster innovation.”
Thiago Rezende, Casa dos Ventos’ director of construction and operations, emphasized the importance of trust in technology partners:
“Partnering with Nextracker gives us confidence in the long-term performance and reliability of our projects. Their track record and engineering excellence make them a trusted partner for the future.”
Technology Driving Efficiency
Three of the projects—Babilônia Sul, Babilônia Centro, and Seriemas—will deploy the NX Horizon-XTR all-terrain tracker system, designed for hilly and irregular landscapes. This reduces the need for heavy earthworks while improving efficiency. Additionally, all sites will use TrueCapture, Nextracker’s advanced yield optimization system that applies sensors and machine learning to continuously fine-tune tracker positioning for maximum energy generation.
Strategic Partnerships and ESG Commitment
The expansion into solar follows Casa dos Ventos’ recently announced joint venture with TotalEnergies to co-develop its renewable portfolio, including hydrogen and green ammonia projects. The company is a signatory of the UN Global Compact and aligns its operations with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), supporting biodiversity preservation, local community initiatives, and a broader transition to a low-carbon economy.
Solar Growth in Brazil
Brazil remains one of the world’s leading renewable markets, already sourcing more than 80% of its electricity from renewables. The government aims for net-zero emissions by 2050, with solar playing an increasingly important role. According to ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy), the country is expected to add 13.2 GW of new solar capacity in 2025, bringing the national total to 64.7 GW and attracting more than $7 billion in investment this year alone.
Nextracker, with over 130 GW of projects across 40 countries, is expanding its footprint in Brazil to meet this surging demand. Its partnership with Casa dos Ventos marks a pivotal step in scaling hybrid energy solutions that combine the country’s vast wind and solar potential.
